Medical Assistant / Accessioning Technician

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience working in a laboratory accessioning department or clinical diagnostics setting preferred

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Carefully review requisitions for completion and work with Client Services to obtain any missing information
  • Unpack, identify and assess integrity of received samples following existing procedure, ensuring all aliquots are received for tests ordered, and follow specimen rejection procedures when necessary
  • Follow storage requirements, universal precautions, documentation control measures and chain of custody protocol
  • Promptly communicate any issues with supervisor when identified
  • Use lab information system to accurately enter requisitions, paying special attention to handwritten directions
  • Properly dispose of specimens
  • Remain versatile when dealing with a wide range of specimen requirements, laboratory duties and working closely with different employee personalities
  • Properly prepare specimens for shipping and coordinate sending process
  • Attend and participate in team meetings
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
