Medical Assistant / Accessioning Technician

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent
1+ years of experience working in a laboratory accessioning department or clinical diagnostics setting preferred

JOB SUMMARY:

Carefully review requisitions for completion and work with Client Services to obtain any missing information
Unpack, identify and assess integrity of received samples following existing procedure, ensuring all aliquots are received for tests ordered, and follow specimen rejection procedures when necessary
Follow storage requirements, universal precautions, documentation control measures and chain of custody protocol
Promptly communicate any issues with supervisor when identified
Use lab information system to accurately enter requisitions, paying special attention to handwritten directions
Properly dispose of specimens
Remain versatile when dealing with a wide range of specimen requirements, laboratory duties and working closely with different employee personalities
Properly prepare specimens for shipping and coordinate sending process
Attend and participate in team meetings
Perform additional duties as assigned
