Physicians

Dr. Aamir Ehsan is American Board Certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, hematopathology, molecular genetics and transfusion medicine. He completed his pathology residency at Monmouth Medical Center at Hahnemann University in Long Branch, New Jersey. He then completed his subspecialty training as a transfusion medicine fellow at Ohio State University and as a hematopathology fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. His expertise in these subspecialties provides a uniquely integrated diagnostic approach to hematopoietic disease processes.
Dr. Ehsan has served as a faculty member at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Ehsan has excelled as a national expert in the field of hematopathology, demonstrating proficiency in bone marrow, lymph node and tissue-based hematolymphoid neoplasms. His tenure as the Director of the Flow Cytometry and Molecular Genetics Laboratories at UT Health San Antonio has contributed to his extensive experience in cutting-edge testing related to the rapidly changing field of pathology.
Dr. Ehsan is an outstanding communicator and educator in his field. He has earned multiple awards for excellence in teaching and has mentored many pathology residents and hematopathology and hematology/oncology fellows. He has contributed to scientific work in peer-reviewed journal articles, authored textbook chapters and has been the invited speaker at various conferences.

Dr. Alma J. Sanchez-Salazar is American Board Certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. Dr. Sanchez-Salazar completed her hematopathology fellowship and residency at UT Health San Antonio, where she extensively performed and read bone marrow biopsies. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Sanchez-Salazar worked as a clinical laboratory scientist.
During her residency training, Dr. Sanchez-Salazar presented at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists (USCAP) Annual Meeting. Upon completion of her residency, she was awarded the Rolf Sjuve Scott Award after being selected by her peers for excellence in knowledge, work ethic and teamwork.

Dr. Bridget Herschap is American Board Certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. She completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she was actively involved in mentoring medical students and residents. Dr. Herschap has special interest and is uniquely trained in all aspects of hematopathology and surgical pathology.
As the Medical Director of Business Affairs at CorePath Laboratories, Dr. Herschap brings vast experience in diagnostic hematopathology, cancer genetics, and flow cytometry. Dr. Herschap possesses extensive experience in performing bone marrow procedures. She actively teaches bone marrow biopsy techniques and manages CorePath Laboratories’ National Bone Marrow Program. Dr. Herschap has a keen interest in digital pathology and its application in remote pathology settings. Harnessing the power of digital pathology, she manages and serves as the medical director for several hospital locations across the country. In addition to her leadership roles, she is dedicated to mentoring and educating future pathologists.

Dr. Brenda Ly is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. Dr. Ly completed her residency at Cleveland Clinic and her hematopathology fellowship at UT Health San Antonio, where she extensively read bone marrow and lymph node biopsies.
During her residency training, Dr. Ly has presented at the United State and Canadian Academy of Pathologists (USCAP) Annual Meeting and published articles in the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Pediatric Blood and Cancer.
Dr. Ly has a special passion in teaching undergraduate and medical students and foreign medical graduates interested in pathology.

Pathologist
Dr. Symons is American Board Certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. Dr. Symons graduated from pathology residency at UT Health San Antonio, and completed a surgical pathology fellowship with a focus in genitourinary tract pathology at Houston Methodist Hospital.
Prior to joining CorePath, Dr. Symons worked with private practice pathology groups in Austin, Texas and in Phoenix, Arizona. Before attending medical school, Dr. Symons trained as a Histotechnician at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and worked as an ASCP certified Histotechnician in both Texas and New York.

Pathologist & Dermatopathologist
C.Leilani Valdes, MD, MBA, FCAP is a board-certified pathologist inanatomic,clinical, and dermatopathology. She earned her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at Los Angeles County–USC Medical Center, followed by a dermatopathology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Valdes is an active leader in organized pathology, with extensive service in the College of American Pathologists, including serving as a Governor on the Board and as Chair of the Council on Membership and Professional Development. She has also chaired the Professional and Community Engagement Committee and served on the Economic Affairs/Measure Development Committee. In addition, she has held leadership roles with the Texas Society of Pathologists, serving as President from 2023–2024 and currently chairing its Economic Council.
Dr. Valdes brings a strong focus on leadership, collaboration, and community engagement. She completed an Executive MBA at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business, graduating as a Leadership Fellow, and is an active advocate for community and public health initiatives focused on improving healthcare delivery.
