Durga P. Cherukuri, PhD, DABMGG, CG(ASCP)CM MBCM

Consultant Cytogeneticist

Dr. Durga Cherukuri is American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) certified in clinical cytogenetics and clinical molecular genetics. He also has a New York State Department of Public Health (NYSDOH) certification in genetic testing (molecular), cytogenetics and oncology (molecular and cellular tumor markers).

After receiving his PhD in genetics from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Dr. Cherukuri conducted his post-doctoral research on human colorectal cancer at the University of Arizona. Later, he completed a fellowship in clinical molecular genetics at the UCLA Intercampus Medical Genetics Training Program, where he soon after completed a second fellowship in clinical cytogenetics under the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Cherukuri has extensive experience in various clinical areas, including laboratory management, NGS assay development (with a focus on oncology and germline), molecular genetics, cytogenetics, FISH, hematological malignancies and solid tumors.

During his time as faculty in the Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Dr. Cherukuri trained and mentored many pathology residents and fellows. He has also received research fellowships for his work. He has authored university courses, poster presentations and several publications, solidifying his role as a recognized leader in the field. Throughout his career, he has been invited to speak at various scientific meetings and conferences.

Dr. Cherukuri has spearheaded CorePath’s molecular and cytogenetic testing and continues to be a key component in improving and expanding the laboratory’s services.
